St Austell Bay has golden beaches and is a haven for watersports. There are ancient narrow streets and smart pedestrian precincts with fine shops. Its industry of china clay goes back to 1748. Things to see and do in the area include: St Austell Brewery, Charlestown Shipwreck and Heritage Centre, Mid-Cornwall Galleries, Roche Rock, Wheal Martyn Museum, Kids Kingdom, Polkyth Leisure centre with swimming pool, 18-hole golf course. Ideal base for touring all the sights of Cornwall.
